Orchid fruit and seeds

The fruit is a capsule loculicida, opening by three or six longitudinal grooves. Rarely, the fruit of the orchid is a berry.

The seeds are tiny and numerous. The integument is membranous Orchid fruit and seedscrustosa, or without plant melanins, with only the outer layer and persistent internal tissues collapsed. The seeds are often membranous, and winged, which allows them to be dispersed by wind. The embryo is very small and is not accompanied by endosperm tissue, as this is aborted very early in embryonic development.
